A Back-to-School Meet-and-Greet of the Fair Haven Firemen's Fair Kind

Find out when and where you can meet some teachers and administrators outside of school before it starts.

By Elaine Van Develde

Everyone knows that when it's Fair Haven Firemen's Fair time, the end of the summer has arrived and the start of a new school year is very near.

Since what is truly the dawn of time in the borough, it has been a tradition for the fairgrounds to be a place where many reunions and introductions take place. It's also been a place where kids meet up to talk about who got which teacher and what they're anticipating for back-to-school time.

Well, there have been some changes in Fair Haven schools and Rumson's as well; and, Fair Haven First Aid Squad member Katy Badt Frissora has come up with a unique "meet-and-greet the school staff and administrators" approach to the fair.

She's rounded up some school officials to help her man what's known as the Shuffle Board Booth.

So far, new Fair Haven Superintendent Nelson Ribon and new Knollwood School Principal Kevin Davis will be at the booth from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26, and Viola L. Sickles School Principal Susan Alston will be shuffling at the booth on Thursday of fair week from 6 to 8 p.m. as well.

Frissora is thrilled to have the administrators helping out; and, she says, the administrators are thrilled about the idea of working in the booth and getting to know the kids in a very Fair Haven sort of way.

As far as teachers go ... you never know who may show up! Patch will keep you posted on what we see and hear.

They're still in need of volunteers at the fair, especially for Monday, Thursday and Saturday of next week. Stop by the fair grounds to sign up or click here and check out where you may be needed and offer your services.
