Local Dads Serenade Their Neighbors at Sunset Concert

Salva Vidas played at the second installment of Fair Haven's Sounds at Sunset concert series.

As the sun set over the Navesink River Friday night, families gathered together for the second installment of this summer's Sounds at Sunset Concert Series.

Salva Vidas played for family, friends and neighbors at the concert. They opened their performance with "Carolina in My Mind," by James Taylor. This smooth, soft rock song set off the night as the evening breeze blew over the Fair Haven dock.

Salva Vidas is a local band made up of 4 Fair Haven fathers who met through their daughters pre-school class. The members include: John Amabile (lead vocals and guitar), Dan Corboy (guitar and vocals), John Griffin (bassist), and Matt Ryan (drums).

"They have been playing together for about 2 years or so," said Jennifer Amabile, wife of the lead singer. "They really are great together."

The band plays a mix of some original music and tasteful rock. Some of the covers they play include the Rolling Stones, Tom Petty and Van Morrison. The members make up a truly local band with strong ties to Fair Haven.

Kiera Madden of Red Bank stopped by the concert with a couple friends. "I think this is such a great idea," said Madden. "The band is awesome and this dock is great for a concert at sunset."

This is the third year for the Sunset Concert Series. The concerts are held at the Fair Haven dock and start right before sunset to give that summer-time feel. "Its a kaleidoscope of sounds over the serene landscape of the Navesink," said Charlie Hoffmann from the Fair Haven recreation department.

According to Hoffmann, these concerts are perfect for the whole family. Some parents were on the dock listening to the band play while the kids played down in the sand by the river. You could hear the sounds of music and laughter down Fair Haven road coming from the dock, making the concert seem inviting.

A few girls from the Rumson-Fair Haven High School Key Club were there to help hand out flyers. "I love coming to these concerts," said Brittney Hess. "It's nice to come and listen to the music and see all the kids and their families having a good time."

The Sounds at Sunset Concerts are 100% supported through local Fair Haven sponsorships. The next concert will be held on June 4th and will feature the local band River Road.
