Phoenix Productions' presentation of the musical "Legally Blonde" continues for the next two weekends at the Count Basie Theatre and Historical Strand Theater.
The revival of the Broadway hit features a cast of 40 performers led by real-life law student Leigh Emery of Flanders as Elle Woods, a sorority girl turned Harvard scholar, according to a release.
Other supporting cast members include familiar Phoenix members such as Phil Mazzarra as Emmett, Andrea Brooks as Paulette, and September McCarthy as Crystal.
The musical is based on the 2001 Reese Witherspoon movie of the same name. Legally Blonde is an upbeat tale of hard work and determination, companionship and friendship — as well as a bit of homework, too. The Broadway version of the musical opened in 2007 and ran for 625 performances. Popular songs from the musical include, "Bend and Snap," and "Omigod you Guys."
"It’s the perfect summer musical!" director Anthony Greco said in a release. "Its major dance scenes and upbeat music numbers feature marching bands and cheerleaders that really show the feeling of school spirit that inspires students and adults alike."
"Legally Blonde" will play at the Count Basie Theatre July 20, 21, and 22 with Friday and Saturday performances at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. The show will also premier at the Historical Strand Theater in Lakewood on July 28 for a 2 p.m. matinee and an 8 p.m. performance.
