Grammy Nominated Linda Chorney Redefines 'Indie'

The Monmouth County native is the first self-made artist to be nominated for a Grammy.

When you think of Grammy nominated artists, you think of wealthy producers, expensive studios, world tours and a deep entourage. But Linda Chorney has proven everyone wrong.

Chorney, 51 and hailing from Red Bank and Asbury Park, is the first self-promoted, self-recorded and truly "indie" artist to be nominated for a Grammy. Chorney's album "Emotional Jukebox," is nominated for Best Americana Album.

"I'm encouraging people out there to go out and enjoy yourselves while you can," Chorney said.

Chorney sent her own music to the awards through Grammy365, which allowed her to send her music to voters nationally, without the "big machine" behind her, as Chorney says.

Artists Ry Cooder, Lucinda Williams, Levon Heml and Emmylou Harris are also nominated in the category.
