Fair Haven Students Show Off Their Work at District Art Show

Fair Haven's Knollwood school hosted the districts art show, displaying work from students in pre-school through eighth grade.

The Fair Haven School District Art Show displayed the efforts of a year's hard work by students from preschool through eighth grade.

Families poured into the gym at the Knollwood School on April 5 to hunt down all the art that their children had produced during the school year.  The gym and corridors of the school were lined with the art in groupings by grade, and then by piece. The effect of the same piece of art work displayed, in each students own voice, and en masse was eye popping.

Art teachers from both schools were on hand to meet parents who were undoubtedly impressed with the quantity and quality of the work. RoseAnn LaBrocca is a Sickles School Art teacher who has taught in the district for 15 years.

“The children have worked very hard on their projects and love this opportunity to show off their work to their parents,” LaBrocca said.

Throughout the evening, the younger children were very excited each time they found an item of their own and eagerly pointed it out to their families.

The importance of art in children’s lives is stated in the evening’s program: “Visual arts education in Fair Haven is an essential part of a complete education.  Its foundation includes: problem solving, creativity, innovation, personal expression, conceptual thinking, and self-discovery.  It also provides a perspective on knowledge unavailable in other subjects; one that allows students to understand human experience and make informed judgments about their own culture and lives through critical reflection.”
