Water Restored, Safe to Drink on Barrier Island

'Do Not Consume' warning lifted

Barrier island residents who are customers of New Jersey American Water can once again use their home's water supply for drinking and cooking.

The company announced Thursday that a "Do Not Consume" order had been lifted after testing showed the water was safe to drink.

"The Do Not Consume order has been lifted for all New Jersey American Water customers, as results of water quality testing have confirmed that water quality meets drinking water standards," NJAW said in a statement Thursday night.

Barrier island residents, who are expected to be able to return to their homes on a permanent basis Jan. 7, are being advised to run their water faucets for three to five minutes to thoroughly flush their homes' pipes.

Customers should also empty and clean automatic ice makers, drain and refill hot water heaters that are set below 113 degrees, and recharge water softeners and cartridges.

Water is now safe to drink in:

  • All of Brick Twp.
  • All of Toms River Twp. (including Chadwick Beach and Normandy Beach)
  • Lavallette Boro (New Jersey American Water customers only)
  • Mantoloking Boro
  • Ortley Beach
  • Pelican Island (Previously lifted December 19, 2012)

I left a comment yesterday see someone took it down, I guess they only want to see comments that don't infuriate the population. As displaced tax paying citizens we need to standup to the Gestapo tactics of local government keeping us from our homes

While taxpayers/homeowners of Ortley Beach languish in limbo-land, our Ward One Council woman Maria Maruca was too busy to attend the last TR Council meeting on 12/26/12 In addition 2 other Councilmen ( Manforti & Wittmann) failed to attend and a 4th Councilman Sevastakis ( dressed for a beach outing!) spent most of the meeting playing with his smart phone (see below link of meeting)! This is truly a sad, incompetent bunch and it looks like we're on our own! The message is crystal clear the Council could not care less. Keeping Ortley Beach closed allows the FEMA tab to continue! http://tomsriver.pegcentral.com/player.php?video=9fc7cb842bc34934dfb1bb508f1b1970

Most realize those who are on council in many different towns south, north, east and west are political clowns.

as much as I hate it we're going to be forced to do the same...sell...which unfortunately is exactly what they want...ever since Dover township became Tom's river it's been nothing but corrupt...unfortunately selling now will not be easy and we'll all be taking a major hit on the value of our homes...or land if there is no home
