The R-FH Weekend: What's Goin' On

What's going on this weekend in the Rumson-Fair Haven area?

Yes, it's Father's Day; and, it's a sure sign there will be many family dinner dates and scents of steak and burgers on the barbeque wafting through the air.

But, before all that, there's a 100th birthday bash to be had. Yes, unless you live under a rock, if you live in this area you know Saturday marks the Fair Haven Centennial celebration.

The grand party will start with a parade lining up at Sickles School, Willow Street at 2:15 p.m. The parade will travel (within 15 minutes or so of line-up) to Fair Haven Fields, at an estimated time of 3 p.m., where the festivities will begin and extend into the evening hours. Those activities are:

• 4 to 5 p.m. ~ popcorn, lemonade and sweet tea served

• 4 to 5:45 p.m. ~ entertainment by Brian Kirk and the Jirks

• 5 to 7 p.m. ~ Brennan's American BBQ

• 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. ~ more from Brian Kirk and the Jirks

• 6 p.m. ~ first 50/50 winners announced

• 6:30 to 7 p.m. ~ speeches

• 7 to 9 p.m. ~ River Road Band

• 8:30 p.m. ~ second 50/50 winners announced

• 9:15 p.m. ~ fireworks

And the celebration ends with a bang! Happy 100th birthday Fair Haven!

Also on Saturday ... There's a Rumson schools-hosted spring book fair at Barnes & Noble from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., featuring events and readings by Rumson schools teachers and administrators and athletes.

And, don't forget that the in honor of former Rumsonite, cardiologist and author Dr. George Sheehan, kicks off in Red Bank at Marine Park.
