The following is a list of events that take place through New Year's Day at Fort Hancock on Sandy Hook. Updates are posted on the Gateway National Park Facebook page

Geminid Meteor Shower Party


Saturday, Dec 14, 7 to 10 p.m.
 
Meet at Parking Lot E  Join a park ranger and the Amateur Astronomers Association to view the moon, Jupiter, and the Geminid meteor shower. Dress for the weather and bring binoculars/telescopes.

Children's Christmas Crafts Workshop at the Lighthouse Keeper’s Quarters.

Sunday, Dec. 15, 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Bring the family and learn to make paper chains and popcorn garland, reminiscent of homemade decoration from long ago.

Christmas Holly Walk
 
Saturday, Dec 21, at noon

Meet in Parking Lot E. Enjoy the Winter scenery and learn about the “holly” of Christmas with a ranger-guided walk around Sandy Hook’s 64-acre maritime Holly Forest.

New Year's Day Beach Walk

Jan 01, 2014, 11 a.m. to  3 p.m.

Meet at Building 18, Fort Hancock. Which came first, the New Year’s Day hangover or the American Littoral Society walk? Which is the better way to start a new year?

Take a winter stroll on the beach and return to House 18 for hot cider/chocolate and hot dogs. Bring any holiday finger deserts that you wish to share.
