Rumson Recreation Committee Discusses Summer Happenings

The Rumson Recreation Committee held a meeting May 18, discussing the upcoming summer recreation programs.

With summer soon approaching and the school year coming to a close, Rumson Borough children will have the opportunity to celebrate summer through multiple recreational camps and clinics that are slated to begin in the upcoming weeks.

Rumson Recreation Committee met May 18 at Borough Hall to reveal its plans for the next few months and two new recreational camps planned to begin this summer.

The commission reviewed past business including the use of turf fields during lacrosse games, the upcoming June 9th All Star softball and baseball game and the Annual Steak and Bake dinner that is slated to be held on June 3rd at the Monmouth Boat Club.

On from the Spring and into the Summer season, the commission discussed plans for the upcoming Summer with the Family Fun Nights in Victory Park poster in the process of being printed and the registration for Summer and Fall soon coming to a close.

Residents are reminded that June third is the last day of signups for Summer Hoops, fall soccer and fall flag football and forms received after that date must include the late fee of ten additional dollars.

The Chess camp will be open to residents ages seven through twelve, from August first to fifth from 9 a.m. to noon with a registration fee of $180 per student. Flyers were sent home to children in school.

There were also talks of bringing in local recognized chess players to visit the camp. The camp will be held in the Rumson Borough Hall Courtroom adjacent to Borough Hall.

The newest recreation camp will teach students in currently in grades third through eightieth, in September grades fourth through ninth basic wrestling skills in a weeklong program run by Rumson Fairhaven Wrestling Coach Seth Herman, his staff and members of the Varsity wrestling team.

This program would be the first and only wrestling camp in Rumson, Hird said.

More information is expected to be released soon and is anticipated to begin in the last week of July.
