Rumson Fireworks Were a Boom

Fireworks shot across the sky Sunday evening during Rumson's annual Fourth of July celebration.

Starting around 8:30 p.m. firework enthusiasts flocked to the Oceanic Bridge and Victory Park in the hopes of finding the right spot to view the skyline spectacle otherwise known as the Rumson Fireworks.

At Victory Park, more than 200 attendees lined the waterfront including Cranford resident Janet Kobliska who has returned to Rumson for the past fourteen years to view the fireworks. “I’m glad the weather broke,” she said. “It’s going to be a gorgeous night.”

The Oceanic Bridge closed to automobile traffic at 8 p.m. and remained closed until 10:15 p.m. More than five hundred guests carrying lawn chairs, glow sticks and cell phone cameras rushed to get a perfect viewing spot on the bridge.

On the water, more than fifty small watercrafts and boats set anchor in the bay area, which caused for boat traffic around 10 p.m. but otherwise was an ideal location to view both the Rumson fireworks and Red Bank's Kaboom! Fireworks.
