Remembering Veterans in the R-FH Area

Find out about services in the area; and send us photos of your vets.

Veterans Day is a time to remember those who have served and are serving our country.

Trips are made to cemeteries that are strewn with memorial flags from veterans’ organizations and area fire companies — a thank you and “lest we forget” marker from those who remain and carry on in the spirit of volunteerism.

In Rumson and Fair Haven 11 a.m. Veterans Day services in Victory and Memorial parks, respectively, on Monday will honor those who have served and are serving.
"I sent out about 100 invitations," Fair Haven Mayor Ben Lucarelli said, adding that there are very few World War II vets remaining in the borough.

"There are three or four" in Rumson, Mayor John Ekdahl said.

The aim of such memorial services is the ensure that while many who have served the country are gone, they are not forgotten. Neither are those who remain.
Patch would like to honor those in uniform of days gone by and now by featuring photos of the vets from these hometowns.

See if you remember the vets we’ve entered from last year and please send your own photos of someone special to remember to elaine.develde@patch.com. “Lest we forget …”
