Opening Day Parade: A Small Town Event with Lots of Neighbors and Friends

Hundreds of people came out for the Fair Haven Opening Day Parade this past weekend.

Hundreds of people came out to support the little league teams and enjoy a beautiful day with friends and neighbors at the Fair Haven Opening Day Parade on April 2, 2011.

Mayor Halfacre said this is his favorite time of the year. “This is the type of thing that makes a small town a small town,” said Mayor Halfacre. “After a long cold winter it is so nice to come out and see everyone, stand on the grass and enjoy the day.”

The event started with a parade throughout the town to the Fair Haven Fields. Once at the fields, member of the teams and their families filled the outfield of a field to listen to speakers talk about the program and expectations for the players and coaches. One of the speakers who offered inspirational words to the teams and their families was Coach Shane Fallon from Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School.

“Everything I learned when I was growing up was from my parents and sports,” said Shane Fallon, the coach of the RFH State Championship football team. “Listen to your parents and coaches and you will go far. You are so lucky to live in Fair Haven with great coaches, parents and a whole town who loves and supports you,” he added.

After the first pitch was thrown, families and friends enjoyed music, food and lots of entertainment throughout the day.
