Newsworthy: What's the Story in R-FH?

A look at what's in the news this week in the Rumson-Fair Haven area

Well, there seems to be no sun in sight today to start the week, R-FHers. And what a week it promises to be — as much as a week can make a promise, anyway. I think I’ll call it the week of culminations. That’s really how it’s shaping up.

• For starters, R-FH seniors are wrapping up their high school years with finals, graduation practices and, of course, graduation on Friday. Congrats, R-FH seniors! Patch will be there to catch the milestone in photos.

And, this week, to honor seniors and the tradition of very unique senior pictures, we are going to run a photo gallery of old (and new) senior pics and ask which your favorite saying was that went with a senior’s yearbook photo. Back in the day — you remember when — each senior chose a quote or saying of their own to accompany their pic.

I’ll share my favorite first and expect many to follow. Don’t forget to share when it’s posted. This should be a fun one. In the meantime, left over from last week, I will run retro (and present) prom pics. Please post yours! I can’t be the only one. That would be way too scary!

• The other milestone that will be culminating in a grand celebration is the Fair Haven Centennial. All week, in honor of the event, Patch will have interesting stories and/or tidbits culled from the Red Bank Register of 100 years ago.

And, on Saturday, let the celebration begin with the parade at 3 p.m. from Sickles School to Fair Haven Fields for the rest of the festivities that will extend into the evening hours. See you there!

Patch will also keep you . There are a couple of cases we’re keeping tabs on via our men and women in blue in both boroughs. Detective Sgt. Jesse Dykstra has promised to keep us informed about the case of the allegedly and the from last week, among other things. Thanks, Detective Dykstra! Rumson police have also promised to touch base with us about the crackdown on underage drinking. We’ll be checking in.

• Patch is also planning on continuing to probe the issue of private road maintenance and whether or not the burden of proof as to who owns these roads is on the borough or residents.

• We’ll also be following up on , with a profile on Sandi Vilacoba, Fair Haven native, and what makes pilates so inspiring for her.

• As far as our column, we’ll have to see what’s on locals’ plates this week and surprise you.

• And, of course, both Fair Haven and Rumson will hold council meetings on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Doesn’t look like much is on the agendas, but you never do know what will come up in discussion or public portions at the meetings.

Until next time, I leave you with this observation: I’m thinking we may need to call Rumson and Fair Haven the foxiest towns around, not just for their obvious good looks, but because of these random fox sightings I’ve had lately, Last week I saw one early in the morning running across a new home construction site as if it were the most normal routine in the world.

And, last night, while driving down Rumson Road, a fox traipsed across the street, right in front of my car with a, ugh, rabbit in his mouth. These are just the latest. I’ve seen an awful lot of them in the past year or so.

And, don’t ya know that as soon as I stretch my arm to the passenger seat to reach for the ever-ready camera, they’re gone.  Let us know if you’ve seen them to and/or managed to get some pics. They’re really beautiful, but the rabbit in the mouth … I could have done without that haunting image.

Happy week foxy borough folks! See you on the beat.
