Local Jewelry Shop Celebrating 30 Years in Rumson

Goldtinker Partner Penny Viau was inspired by her grandmother’s jewelry at a young age.

“I started collecting stones and was called a rock hound back then,” she said. “Being Italian, it’s just in my blood.”

Viau’s genes for gems led her to jewelry design and drawing inspiration from her family’s home country.

“I love the buildings and artwork of Italy,” she said. “The texture of Venetian mosaic tiles translates beautifully to jewelry.”

Viau brought her family aesthetic to Rumson, opening Goldtinker’s doors at 15 West River Road in 1981. Thirty years later, Viau and team know their shop has thrived because of the support of generations of Rumson residents.

“The customers I met when I first became a partner years ago still return to our store,” said Vaiu. “Their children also come in now because of the relationship we’ve built with their parents. “

Local families love Goldtinker’s one-of-a-kind jewelry that cannot be found in any other store. From pearls to sapphires to diamonds, Manager Tony Goltsch ensures only the finest quality.

“We know what our customers expect,” said Goltsch. “They love shopping here because they find unique pieces.”

Customers also enjoy the personal touch of Goldtinker’s boutique. Whether seeking repair, appraisal or a last minute item, Goldtinker fans know they’re in good hands.

“Every now and then, we’ll get a call from someone who is going out that evening and needs earrings to match a dress,” said Goltsch. “We encourage them to bring in the dress, so we can find the best pair.”

“Fifty percent or more of purchases here are for custom pieces,” said Viau.

Summer is Goldtinker’s busiest time of year, with customers who relocated to other states visiting their family and friends in Rumson on vacation.

“Some people we only see once a year,” said Goltsch. “But when they’re in town, they always stop in for the latest styles.”
