Don't Miss Next Year's Halloween Egg Hunt

Eggs are no longer just for bunnies and Easter as the Fair Haven Halloween Egg Hunt was a great success.

As if a giant bunny laying Easter eggs was not confusing enough, Fair Haven now started a Halloween Egg Hunt tradition.

On the Friday before Halloween, while many middle-school aged children attended Halloween Dances, younger children met at McCarter Park for the first Halloween Egg Hunt. The children scoured the park for 4000 black and orange eggs filled with a piece of candy or a little toy.

"This gave the younger ones something to do pre-Halloween," said Fair Haven Recereation Director Charlie Hoffman. "We have a growing number of young families with toddlers moving into town. They seem to be very receptive and appreciateive of some of the initiatives the Recreation Commisison has put forth for the younger children."

And it was clear that residents appriciated the event as over 250 children attended. "It was as big as our Easter Egg Hunt," said Hoffman. The recreation department also had a Halloween parade the weekend before. Click to see photos.

Hoffman said the hunt for thousands of eggs was over in 5 minutes, but the families who attended enjoyed more of the evening. "Some families stayed, in the darkness, to talk and enjoy the park. Volunteers from the Key Club painted faces with pumpkins, ghosts and bats," said Hoffman.

Hoffman also gave thanks to  Fair Haven Junior Girl Scouts, Troop 1597 for helping the Recreation Department set up and the for directing traffic and keeping the hunters safe.

Due to the success of the event, the Halloween Egg Hunt will return next year.
