Getting Irish Up for Rumson St. Patrick's Day Parade

Fundraiser is this weekend

The second annual Rumson St. Patrick's Day Parade may be in March — the 9th, to be exact — but principals were put and prepping for it Friday afternoon.

At a press conference with local Irish flair at Murphy's, parade organizers and dignitaries gathered to chat about plans for the expanded event.

This year, for instance, roughly 100 units will be marching, compared to last year's 73. There will be nine bagpipe bands (possibly 10), a bigger military focus and presence, and more school bands.

Fundraising efforts are underway to defray associated costs.

The first fundraiser is set for this weekend at Murphy's.

Among those pictured is parade master of ceremonies JoAnn Pileggi, Fox 5 and My9 reporter and Mayor John Ekdahl.
