Fair Haven Kids Drum Up Some Fishing Stories at McCarter Pond

Fair Havens annual fishing derby took place on May 7 at McCarter Pond.

Fair Haven residents came out to McCarter Pond this Saturday to throw their lines in and catch a big one.

Fair Haven’s fishing derby is held the 1st Saturday in May each year at McCarter’s Pond on Fair Haven Rd.  The event has taken place for at least 40 years and is a great small town family event.  The pond is stocked each year with catfish, bluegills (sunfish) and bass.  There are prizes for the most fish caught, the first fish caught and the biggest fish in two age groups (under 8 years and over 8 years).

This year the biggest fish was caught by 9-year-old Andrew Appezzato who caught three large cat fish, the largest of which was 14 inches long.  Georgia Edwards took home the prize for the biggest fish in the younger age group.
