Fair Haven's Centennial: The Parade

The Fair Haven centennial celebration was kicked off with a parade. See the sights.

An especially great thing about a small town parade is that you don't need to prepare. You hear it coming and walk toward the sirens and the beat of the drums.

And in a 1.7-square-mile town, there are always only a few blocks to walk to get a glimpse.

The Fair Haven Centennial Parade kicked off the borough's 100th birthday Saturday. Residents lined the streets from the Viola L. Sickles School, on Willow Street, down River Road, onto Hance and over to Fair Haven Fields.

Fair Haven's signature white fire trucks honked and sounded sirens as the members of the Fair Haven Volunteer Fire Company marched in their original white uniforms, replete with polka dotted navy scarves and white hats.

Just about every organization in town and out marched, from scouts to boat clubs, and, of course, the very colorful garden club and Fair Haven Business Association. The Business Association's Harley had a little motoring mishap on Hance Road, but prevailed for the remainder of the parade.

There were waves and cheers throughout. Everyone was proud to be a Fair Havenite and celebrate 100 years of what has been dubbed one of the best places to live in the country.
