Fair Haven looks ahead to its 100th anniversary in 2012

This year's 99th anniversary events will help raise funds for next year's big Centennial Celebration

Mayor Mike Halfacre and other members of the Fair Haven Centennial Committee met Tuesday to discuss plans for the March 26 cocktail party that will mark the borough's 99th anniversary.

The event, to be held at The Raven and the Peach, will provide an opportunity to raise funds from sales of merchandise branded to commemorate  next year's 100th anniversary and thereby help pay for the year-long centennial celebration. Special wine glasses, tee-shirts, bags and other memorabilia were among the options discussed by committee members.

Tickets to the cocktail party are $5o a person and $99 a couple. Tickets to a special VIP wine room at the event will cost an additional $25. Sponsorship opportunities at the event are $250.

“We are hoping for 200 guests at this event,” said Mayor Halfacre.

The deadline to RSVP is March 11. Registration forms are available on the borough's website at www.fairhavennj.org and should be sent to the Centennial Committee at 748 River Road, Fair Haven, NJ 07704.

A game called "Fair Haven-opoly" is also being  launched to help raise funds for the centennial celebration. Naming rights to squares on a Monopoly board will be sold to businesses and groups for $250 each.  Once all the squares have been purchased, copies of the game will be produced distributed.

A series of monthly centennial events, beginning in January, 2012, is being planned, including a family dinner, a recipe contest and a summer boating event.

“We are taking everything one step at a time,” said Mayor Halfacre.
