Riverside, The Historic Timolat Estate On The Navesink, Now To Be Restored By New Owner Morgan E. Cline

MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, N.J., August 28, 2013 – The sale of this historic landmark was handled by Gloria Nilson & Co. Real Estate sales associate Geralyn Behring, from the Rumson office, who represented Mr. Cline in the transaction valued at more than $6 million dollars.

The 13+ acre country home, sprawling on a bluff high above the Navesink, is best known for its majestic,

multi-columned mansion that commands a sweeping view of the river at its feet.

The renowned architect William Welles Bosworth, a graduate of the École des Beaux-Artes in Paris and favorite architect of John D. Rockefeller, designed the house in 1908 for James Guyon Timolat. Among Mr. Bosworth’s other architectural successes are The AT&T building in New York City, The Vail Mansion in Morristown, NJ and The Cambridge campus of M.I.T.

The mansion sits in the midst of a huge botanical wonderland. Specimen trees, large planted beds, rare shrubs and abundant formal gardens abound.

Three levels of huge concentric river view terraces are interconnected by multiple sets of stone stairways. Woodland trails and great open lawns and fields greet visitors inside the estate’s two entrance gates.

The house is a spectacular architectural triumph with 8-foot windows/doors facing the river in all the four huge first floor rooms and a very large kitchen/butler’s pantry suite at the east end.

Nine massive, elaborate, original fireplaces grace the mansion’s rooms. A model for gracious living, the generous hallways and a floating staircase connect the living floor with six en suite bedrooms above. A full servant’s wing is on the second floor.

Period outbuildings include a carriage house/apartment, pony barn, machine shed, generator house, greenhouse and a dovecote.

Mr. Cline is the co-founder of the pharmaceutical advertising agency Cline Davis & Mann (CDM), which is one of the largest agencies of its kind in the world and a part of the giant Omnicom (OMC) family.

Mr. Cline plans a resurrection of the property at 776 Navesink River Road to rival his restoration of “Riverwind,” the estate where he lives at 700 Navesink River Road.
