RFH GIRLS INDOOR TRACK TEAM ROUTS THE FIELD AT STATE SECTIONALS ADVANCES TO GROUP 2 CHAMPIONSHIP FEBRUARY 18, 2014

 

 

         On Jan 31, 2014 at the “Bubble” in Toms River, New Jersey, the Rumson Fair Haven Girls Indoor Track Team won the NJSIAA Sectional Championship-Central Jersey Group 2 for the 3rd year in a row.  RFH finished first ahead of Holmdel (46 points) and Point Pleasant Borough (31 points). “It was an outstanding team effort, by far the best in my 9 years coaching here,” said Coach Tim Mcloone. “Last year we scored 54 points to win. This year we scored 88 points!”

         In the 400 meter run, Sophomore, Morgan Steinhacker (1:00.32) and Senior, Rachel Mullen (1:01.02) both achieved personal bests and finished 2-3 to take 14 points for the team. 

         In the 800 meter run, Steinhacker held on to take 2nd (2.23.93) followed by a fast closing Senior, Courtney Howley in 3rd  (2.24.42) and Junior Fini Satzke in 6th (2:28.64) for a combined 15 points.

         In the 1600 meter run, Holmdel's Nationally ranked Marin Warner got the win as expected but Seniors, Jacqueline Gottuso (5:11.73), Howley (5.14.73), and Megan Hellman knocked out another 2-3-4 for 18 more points.

         In the 3200m, Gottuso raced as hard as necessary for the win  (11.23.79) while junior Hannah Anderson, in only her 2nd 3200, took silver (11.31.15) over a fast finishing Hellman (11.31.71). This trio gave the team 24 more points.  

         In the 4x400 meter run, Junior, Janie Devito, Mullen, Howley and Steinhacker ran their fastest of the year (4.07.96), finishing first for 10 points.

         In the 55 meter Hurdles, sophomore, Emily Boak, broke her RFH record in the preliminaries (8.97) and then went on to bronze in the final (9.04) with a great dip at the wire scoring 6 points for the team.

         In the High Jump, junior, Anna Finn, jumped 4’8” to take 6th place and advance to the State Finals. Finn scored 1 more point for the team.

     In all, ten girls from the team advance to the NJSIAA State Group Championship on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 where they will face Group 2 favorites Delsea Regional High School and Ramapo High School.  Mcloone added, “[w]e know our girls are tough competitors and we are not just going to give this to Ramapo and Delsea. They are going to have to earn it.”

         The meet will begin at 4 pm at the John Bennett Indoor Sports Complex at 1519 Hooper Avenue in Toms River.  Also advancing to the Group meet from the RFH Boys Indoor Track Team are Senior Jason Bryan who won the shot put with an RFH School Record of 60’00” and senior, Jacob Rue who advanced with an RFH School Record of 11’6” in the pole vault.
