RFH Crew Readies for Fall Season

RFH Crew Registration Open through August 25

RFH Crew, the independent competitive crew team for serious athletes, is preparing for the Fall rowing season both on and off the water.  RFH Crew welcomes all high school students who attend Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School or its affiliated magnet schools to join our successful crew program. This Fall season will include not only regular water practice, but also regular fitness training with a certified personal trainer.  The inclusion of professional fitness training differentiates RFH Crew from other rowing programs as it insures that RFH Crew athletes will become well-conditioned off the water, in addition to learning the sport of rowing on the water.

Many of RFH Crew’s graduates have gone on to join rowing teams at strong college programs including Yale University, University of Massachusetts, Fairfield University, Northeastern University, and Clemson University. RFH Crew provided these athletes a strong foundation, according to college sophomore and RFH Crew graduate Tessa Liberi, who rows at the University of Massachusetts:

“RFH Crew’s Varsity Coaches prepared me to row at a college level. When I rowed for RFH Crew, the coaches showed attentiveness to detail and determination to teach rowers the mechanics of the stroke and how it affects the boat. This gave me a better understanding of the technique and strategies that made my transition easier through my freshman year.”  Tessa noted that as a college freshman she rowed at the junior varsity level.

All levels of rowers can benefit from rowing in Fall since Fall crew involves longer races than Spring. “Rowing in the Fall is one of the nicest times,” said Head Coach Claudia Lucey, who is a Certified Rowing Instructor.  “The types of races available (Head races) allow the rowing to be longer, slower, and more drawn out than the (Spring) Sprint races.”  This means that the Fall season offers both new and seasoned athletes an opportunity to learn or perfect their strokes.
