New Guide Expands Access to Jewish High Holy Day Observances

Jewish Federation connects community members with Jewish experiences this New Year season

HOLMDEL, NJ, August 21, 2013 – Jewish Federation of Monmouth County marked another “first” this week with the release of Where Will You Be for the High Holidays, a listing of religious services for those who are not affiliated with a synagogue or those interested in exploring different Jewish experiences at this time.  The listing is available online at jewishmonmouth.org/highholidays, in the August 27 issue of New Jersey Jewish News, and by request at info@jewishmonmouth.org.

“Observing the Jewish New Year surrounded by fellow community members -- mispacha (Yiddish, loosely translated as family, friends, neighbors), connects us spiritually to generations of tradition, teaching, and meaning” said Michelle Pearlman, Jewish Federation’s Director of Community Engagement and Community Chaplain.  “Congregations throughout Monmouth County offer an abundance of options for all Jews – from secular to highly observant, who want to connect Jewishly at the start of a new year.”

In addition to traditional formats, several congregations this year are offering novel experiences, such as Temple Rodeph Torah of Marlboro’s Rock Hashanah and “Sinful Texting” services, Chabad of Western Monmouth’s song-filled children’s services, and several shore area congregations’ Tashlich services at or near the beach.  Due to space constraints, seating can be limited and in some cases reservations are required.  Those interested in attending are encouraged to call respective congregations in advance for details.

Congregations wishing to add their services to the current list may contact Jewish Federation at 732.866.4300 or lisak@jewishmonmouth.org.   Earlier this summer, Jewish Federation launched a new, online Jewish Community Calendar, where synagogues and Jewish communal groups can also self-post events of any kind, including High Holy Day services. The new calendar is located at jewishmonmouth.org/calendar.

Jewish Federation of Monmouth County is Monmouth County’s principal Jewish philanthropy dedicated to the welfare, vitality, and longevity of the Jewish community in Monmouth County, Israel, and around the world.  It convenes and empowers partners to deliver strategic programs supporting Jews in needs, strengthening Jewish life today, and investing in a bright Jewish future.    A current list of 2013 High Holiday services is available at http://www.jewishmonmouth.org/
