Keyport Garden Walk Selects 2014 Artwork

With over 50 entries from local artists, the selection has been made for the official 2014 Keyport GardenWalk poster.  “A Fairy Garden” by Keyport artist, Karen Cross was selected by an impartial panel of judges to represent this year’s event.  According to Ms. Cross , who attended Ducret School of Art and Design, “it all began with a box of crayons.  I had to share them with my table in Kindergarten and it made me cry!” Ms. Cross has worked as a freelance designer, sign painter, muralist and floral designer.  “Keyport Garden Walk is very important to me. I’ve been on the tour for two years and witnessed the joy it brings to so many people. Offering a painting is one more way of supporting this wonderful event”.

“A Fairy Garden” is part of a series of panels by Ms. Cross based on American quilt patterns from the 1800s to early 1900s.  According to Cross, “The fairy garden is placed in the setting of a woodland floor. My inspiration was the imagined joy of happening upon this tiny treasure during a walk in the woods in spring. “
