RUMSON--With acceptance letters in hand, Holy Cross School 8th Grade students, Haydn Lang of Shrewsbury, Anna Goddard of Middletown, and Karolina Szenkiel of Sea Bright, have their sights set on Monmouth County’s High Technology High School, the Marine Academy of Science and Technology, and the Biotechnology High School, respectively.

“I opened my [notification] letter and I was so excited that I got in, I ran through my entire house,” confessed Szenkiel.  “I want to be a genetic engineer.  I love science.  I’ve always wanted to go to a vocational school,” reels off the energetic teen.  More thoughtfully she adds, “I really like the idea that something so small can have such a big effect on your biology.  I would like to create cures for diseases.”

Anna Goddard will follow her sister to MAST.  She is excited about learning about marine life, and participating in the Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC), a school requirement.  “My grandfather was in the Navy,” she notes.  “The military stuff sounds cool.”  She feels prepared for the challenges of a college prep curriculum, having achieved Honors at Holy Cross.

Another Honor student, Haydn Lang, doesn’t have a career in mind, but “I love math,” he avows.  “There are so many things you can accomplish based on the start they give you,” Lang remarks of the High Tech school that was ranked the #1 STEM High School by US News & World Report.  “As I go along, I’ll see what I want to do.”

All of these talented students credit Holy Cross School for giving them a solid foundation of skills and knowledge. “It’s a good school, friendly.  Everyone is supportive,” says Szenkiel.   Adds, Lang, “The education here has prepared me to get into a top high school.”

Known for its family atmosphere, Holy Cross School delivers a balanced approach to Catholic faith formation, academic achievement and personal growth.  For more information, visit www.holycrossschoolrumson.org.
