Starting the Weekend with the Fair, Jazz, Sidewalk Sale and Ghost Tours

It's what's going on in the Rumson-Fair Haven area Friday and into the weekend.

Happy, happy Friday R-FH area friends and fans!

Well, it was so muggy and buggy last night that I think the kids at Rumson's Thursday Night Lights must have swallowed a few mouthfuls of gnats and mosquitoes while playing and hanging out at Victory Park. It was almost difficult to see through the buggers.

Still, we managed to get a few pics that are on the site. If you have some of your own, send them on over to elaine.develde@patch.com and they'll be added to the photo gallery.

We also stopped by the Fair Haven Firemen's Fair grounds to get some photos of the "dress rehearsal" night before tonight's opening night of what is touted as the biggest, longest running fair in the state — a community tradition truly unparalleled.

We'll have several fair stories all along the way, of course. But, in the meantime, back to the buggy and muggy weather issue. Yeah, it was pretty sticky on the grounds and those bugs filled the air like a mini insect monsoon.

My point? I'm hoping that the weather troll will stick to the forecast of sunny weather and clear nights with a high of 85 degrees that's predicted for Friday into the weekend. Humidity last night was 94 percent. There's no mention of how high humidity will rise over the weekend, but, so far prospects are good for clearer skies.

And for your sunny skies daytime planning for the beach, fishing and/or boating, here's the tide table for Sea Bright:

2013-08-23  6:14 AM EDT   Sunrise
2013-08-23 11:28 AM EDT   3.94 feet  High Tide
2013-08-23  5:40 PM EDT  -0.21 feet  Low Tide
2013-08-23  7:41 PM EDT   Sunset
2013-08-23 11:48 PM EDT   3.87 feet  High Tide
2013-08-24  5:57 AM EDT  -0.34 feet  Low Tide
2013-08-24  6:15 AM EDT   Sunrise

The moon is still in a waning gibbous stage and you'll probably see a lot of it over the weekend at these events slated for under the stars …

In addition to the fair, there will be jazz in the pocket park at 6:45 p.m. on Shrewsbury Avenue in Red Bank, courtesy of the Count Basie 365 program.

There will also be walking ghost tours by lantern in Red Bank, starting at 8 p.m. at Dublin House on Monmouth Street, courtesy of Jersey Shore Ghost Tours.
StreetLife will also have performances scattered all over Red Bank on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Here's the list of this weekend's performers and where they'll be:

• Aardvark Smile — Morgan Stanley/Temple
• Sam Sims — The Dublin House
• Courtney McManus — Siam Garden/The Galleria
• The Lone Ramblers — White St./Chelsea Morning

Oh, and during the day both today and Saturday, the Fair Haven Business Association will host its sidewalk sales along River Road.

That should get you started in your planning. In the meantime, check out our county round-up of weekend events on the site, in case you want to know what's going on outside of the immediate area.

And check out the news on the site today, take a glimpse midday for more and be on the lookout for my camera and me.

See you around the towns …
