I love this family! Check them out as Jim completes his children's, Shanon's and Michael's, makeup, and is joined by his FH gradeschool friend, Scott Ward, and his son, Tyler. (Even the dog wants to get in on the fun!) More to come...so don't forget to tune back in next week, right here on Patch!
Jim Bogardus and I met when I interviewed him and his family at the pancake breakfast at the firehouse in Fair Haven. He and his family's easy going way and friendly vibe struck me and we quickly became friends. When he and his friends were gearing their families up for a summertime Kiss concert at the PNC, we thought it the perfect opportunity to document their adventure. I love being welcomed into someone's home and into their lives. Jim and his family were gracious enough to have me and my camera into their Fair Haven home and I absolutely love what I got to witness. Not only is Jim an …
I came across these silk screens of the Navesink on Facebook and they stopped me in my tracks.  I had never seen our river portrayed as it is here, in the images in the video.  And the story of how they came to be matches the intensity of the images.  Grab a pen because you'll want to contact the talented artist, Tess Krus, immediately and get your hands on at least one.  They're one of a kind!  In case you miss it in the video, email Tess at contact@smeltkrus.com
It's about this time of year that I really start to miss seeing Harvey Tilton's smiling face standing, greeting, and waving kids to safety at the intersection of Fair Haven and River Roads.  I stopped in to talk to Harvey and got a glimpse of all that goes into his day.  And it's much more than just crossing children safely - which would be more than enough!  I think Harvey sums up his approach to work in life in one simple sentence in the video.  When you hear it, you'll know.  It's the reason he's great at what he does, the reason he's a fixture of the neighborhood, and of our lives.  …
If you've grown up in the Rumson-Fair Haven area like I have, chances are you feel empassioned about the way our home has been portrayed in the media lately.  In an effort to counteract the hype about big hair (well, I can't really help with that one), bar fights and frequent misbehaving on the sand, I embarked upon a mission to capture our home and all of its beauty.   The video above captures some of the many places that define my childhood, and I'm sure, yours.  Enjoy! -Jersey Shore Laur
Here's the recipe for the brisket. It was made by Carolyn Dean. Carolyn has shared her adapted the recipe to her taste. The original recipe she used is from Channel 7 "Mr. Food" shown on February 10, 1989.   Not-Your-Regular Brisket 3-1/2 to 4 pounds beef brisket ½ cup water ¼ cup soy sauce ¼ teaspoon black pepper ¼ cup onion, chopped 1 green pepper, sliced ½ cup raisins 2 tablespoons brown sugar 1 (20 oz ) can unsweetened apple slices, drained (note: I use the recommended real peeled slice apples)   Put brisket into a large pot or baking pan. Add water, soy sauce and black pepper; cover. …
Calling all R-FH-ers, just say no to talking on the phone in the public loo.  (Or any, for that matter.)
There are a lot of reasons why living in Fair Haven is such a great experience. One of them being great neighbors.
