Guess What Happens On Sunday?
This Sunday is Jan. 27. Do you remember what’s going to happen on Jan. 27?
No, it’s not the end of the world, and it’s (hopefully) not the day when you give up on your New Year’s resolutions. It’s the day when postage rates go up!
For most of us, it means that the cost of a first class stamp will increase by a penny, from 45 cents to 46 cents. If you do a lot of mailing you might want to head down to your post office today or tomorrow morning and buy a bunch of the “Forever” stamps. You can use them this weekend or next week, or next year- forever — and they’ll cover the cost of mailing up to a one ounce letter.
If you’re wondering what other changes are happening at the post office as of Sunday, here’s a quick list:
Letters (one ounce): one cent increase to 46 cents
Letters (additional ounces): 20 cents (no change)
Post Cards: one cent increase to 33 cents
Letters to all international destinations (1 ounce): $1.10 (new Global Forever stamp)
I bought the O. Henry stamps today at the Shrewsbury post office. If you’re a history buff, they also still have some of the Civil War 1862 souvenir sheets featuring the Battle of New Orleans and the Battle of Antietam.
