Game of the Week: Middletown North @ Manasquan — Boys Basketball, Jan. 17
Middletown North’s early-2012 successes continued on Tuesday night when they defeated the Warriors of Manasquan High School 72-61. North outscored Squan in three of the game’s four quarters, including a 23-9 rout in the second.
Tim Frawley of the Lions led all scorers with 24 points, while key contributions were made for North by both Eric Youncofski and Jason Huelbig who scored 20 and 11 points, respectively.
Middletown North sees action again on Monday when they travel to Freehold Township High School to take on the currently 9-2 Patriots.
Athlete of the Week: Zoe Curtis, Girls Basketball, Red Bank Regional High School
In a display of domination, the Bucs of Red Bank Regional defeated Lakewood High School on Jan. 14. While the Bucs had eight different players appear in the box score, one particular player stood out.
Zoe Curtis of Regional tied a game-high point total, scoring ten, but also made her presence felt under the glass. Curtis grabbed ten rebounds, recording her first double-double of the season.
As a whole, the Bucs gave an outstanding defensive effort against Lakewood, denying the Piners a single point in the third quarter.
Upcoming Game to Watch: Lakewood @ Monmouth Regional – Wrestling, Jan. 25
The Falcons of Monmouth Regional have had an up-and-down season so far in 2011-12, and it’s hard to tell which team will show up on given nights. On one hand, the Falcons could see the dominance they displayed in matches such as their 48-22 victory over Colts Neck High School just a few weeks ago, but, on the other hand, fans could witness the Falcon team that lost to Ocean Township High School 66-6 at the start of the month.
Either way, Monmouth Regional looks to right the ship with their home match against 1-10 Lakewood High School on Jan. 25. The match is scheduled to start at 6pm.
