VIDEO: Lucarelli to Serve as Fair Haven Mayor

Councilman chosen to lead borough through 2012.

Ben Lucarelli will take the helm as Fair Haven's mayor through 2012, council decided during a special meeting at borough hall Monday.

Lucarelli, 50, shall finish out former mayor Michael Halfacre's term through Dec. 31, 2012, as Halfacre stepped down in January to run the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control.

The Monmouth County GOP nominated three candidates for the Fair Haven mayor's gig: Lucarelli, Council President Jon Peters, and former council president Andrew Trocchia.

After a three hour executive session to discuss the candidates starting at 5 p.m. Monday evening, council convened to vote on them, and Lucarelli was chosen unanimously.

Lucarelli, who grew up in Rumson, is the President and Principle Owner of Lucarelli Construction Company, based out of Red Bank.

He has served as a councilman in the borough since 2009, and was in the final year of a three-year term, so a council position will need to be filled.

Lucarelli is currently serving on the Board of Trustees for the Two River Theater Company and has served in the past as President of the Monmouth Day Care Center, and on the Board of Governors for Middletown's Navesink Country Club and Oceanport's Shrewbury Sailing & Yacht Club.
