Tour de FH to Feature Antique Bike Demo

New Jersey Weelmen will pedal the bikes as part of the Tour entertainment

Fair Haven Councilwoman . She said that this year's fourth annual Tour de Fair Haven would feature a new demonstration of a very old-fashioned bicycle ride, featuring bikes dating back to before the 1890s.

Sorensen told Patch that the bikes had just arrived and were fascinating. Now there's more information and photos of the antique bikes.

"Several meticulously-restored high-wheel bicycles made in America prior to 1890 will be on display, and riders from the New Jersey Wheelmen will proudly pedal a beautiful 1883 tandem tricycle," a released statement said.

"The bicycles are the pride of The New Jersey Wheelmen, the New Jersey chapter of a national, non-profit organization dedicated to bringing to life the heritage of American cycling, promoting the restoration and riding of early cycles, and encouraging cycling as part of modern living."

The bicycles will be on display at the Fair Haven firehouse from noon on for the Aug. 12 Tour de Fair Haven.

“This amazing collection of antique bicycles partners perfectly with the Fair Haven heritage that we are showcasing throughout this Centennial year,” Sorensen said. "Along with our new contest for best house decorations along the race route and for best tailgate, this visit from the NJ Wheelmen and their beautiful collection of prized cycles is yet another reason to bring the family and enjoy this year’s Tour de Fair Haven on August 12.”
