The Lockwoods' Valentine Love Story
A longtime Fair Haven couple still in love after more than half a century this Valentine's Day
Ken and Peg Lockwood still hold hands.
It's something that just comes naturally to the longtime Fair Haven couple who will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on May 3 of this year.
If you ask Ken, he'll proudly tell you at age 90 what year he and Peg met and when they got married, the entire time glancing her way with a warm smile.
He never seems to take his eyes off of Peg. He always hears what she's saying, even though he'll tell you he's a bit hard of hearing sometimes. It's instinct. They've just always been in sync. And it has always seemed effortless.
Anyone who's known them can tell you they've seen it for themselves. They are what true love looks like.
She still brushes his whisps of hair off his brow when they fall over his eyes and pats him gently on the back as she passes by him in a room. He smiles when she walks into a room and his eyes dart around when he can't see her.
They built a home in Ken's native Fair Haven together and fell in love with neighbors who fell in love with them. Ken was there for 88 years and Peg for nearly 60.
It was always a signal that something was wrong if you didn't see them outside preening and pruning around their yard — always together. And, it was rare to see one in the store around the corner without the other.
For more than half a century love has been kind to this couple and they have been kind to love — always respecting it and one another. They'll also tell you that they were in love with their Fair Haven life.
What the Lockwoods have and have had for nearly 60 years is rare by most standards. They don't think so. It's all just come so naturally for them.
On this Valentine's Day, we invite you to get a glimpse into what it looks like to endure in love for so long. Take a look at the video above, and notice how when Ken talks about Peg, he glances over at her and smiles.

If anyone is in contact with Mr. Lockwood, please ask him if he remembers my father - Alfred O. Niedermayer. "Al " graduated from Rumson High in 1938 and lived on Locust Ave. in Fair Haven from 1937 on. There is no doubt that they would have crossed paths at some point. Maybe Ken even has a remembrance about my father !
