Rumson Volunteers to Help Clear Homes of Sandy Debris on Saturday

Do you need help? Email Rumson Mayor John Ekdahl

A message from Rumson Mayor John Ekdahl:

Two groups of Rumson volunteers are meeting Saturday to assist residents of both Rumson and Sea Bright clean out storm-damaged debris from their homes.

The overall effort is being overseen by Gil from Brazil. There will be two groups forming in West Park, adjacent to the Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge. Parking will be available in the park as parking will be at a premium in both towns.

The first group will meet at 9:30 a.m. and be led by R-FH basketball coach "Shempy" and his players. All are welcome to join them.

The second group will meet at 12:30 p.m. in the park and be led by Sean Moran.

All volunteers are welcome, including students home for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Lunch will be served in Sea Bright at Woody's Food/Tent City. Rumson residents interested in the help offered should forward the address of their home to: John@johnekdahl.com.

We sincerely thank all volunteers for their efforts.

If anybody offers work on your property, be sure to check with the state of NJ:

To see if they are licensed.

Contracts over $500 must be in writing. Your rights in dealing with a contractor are here:

I wish you the very best in your recovery. I have relatives who had 9 feet of water in their homes, and the damage water can do is both beyond belief and expensive to deal with. My prayers are with you.

These nice people really should leave this to the professionals. They are at severe risk of infection cleaning without the proper protective equipment (breathing apparatus and coverings). Bless them

Almost three weeks after the storm Mayor Ekdahl has decided to start issuing statements on how to help. How about having a meeting with fema, the sba and the borough to discuss how to rebuild our homes. The mayor has yet to hold a meeting to discuss permit fees or rebuilding.
