‘Tis the season for winter holiday festivities, many of which will premiere in Rumson starting Friday.
First, Friday is opening night of the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Tower Players’ production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The show, which is also being produced in line with a celebration of Dickens’ 200th anniversary, will run at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the high school’s auditorium. The show will close on Sunday with a 1 p.m. matinee.
On Saturday, Dec. 1, Rumsonites can look forward to the annual holiday bazaar at Deane-Porter where a lot of to socializing and gift shopping is characteristically done from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school.
Then, on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 5 p.m., Rumson will host its annual holiday celebration and tree lighting at Victory Park.
The festivities at the park will include performances of Tim McLoone and the Shirleys, the R-FH Tower Singers and Deane-Porter’s third grade chorus.
“There will be refreshments for all and everyone is invited to attend this special evening with (your) Rumson friends and neighbors, which is a wonderful start to your holiday season,” Rumson Mayor John Ekdahl said.
And then there are school concerts: Deane Porter will host its annual holiday concert at 10 a.m. at the Forrestdale School gym. And Forrestdale will host its annual concert on Dec. 19 at 1:30 p.m. in the school’s gym.
Congregation B'nai Israel will also be having a Chanukah party on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 4:30 p.m.

So Mayor Ekdahl can host a tree lighting but cannot host a meeting for Rumson Residents affected by Sandy.......Thanks Mr. Mayor.....

@J H, please share when the official meeting was held by the Borough to discuss rebuilding Rumson? How to deal with Fema? The only meeting I know of was a regularly scheduled Borough Council meeting.

And Cath, it is VERY hard to be Cheerful when you are displaced. Maybe the first person is one of the 50 displaced families in Rumson who's houses flooded. After losing my entire first floor and everything in my garage, I am not really in the Christmas spirit. Have a little sympathy for these people. Tom Rogers has been great calling people back who have questions, but maybe one meeting for these people needs to be held.

J.H. you might have Rumson confused with Sea Bright. Sea Bright held meetings in our Borden Football Stadium several times. To date Rumson has not held ANY town meetings to help displaced residents. Oh and glad we spent 5 mil on our new town hall...where are we sending our displaced residents to get permits info etc?? NOT boro hall, we send them to Bingham Hall..a building redone by the way with private funds. Guess we don't want mud tracked onto the pretty marble floors?! Give me a break.

It's a CHRISTMAS tree lighting, not a holiday tree! All this diversity education and everyone's afraid to say Christmas. You called the Hannukah party what it is, a Hannukah party. why can't you acknowledge the Christmas tree? Just say "Christmas", go ahead, just say it!

Sorry, we were affected by Sandy as well but CHRISTMAS is Christmas ... I think people need a little normalcy and continuity in their lives especially after a tragedy. Everything gets cancelled and it makes it even worse. It's something that shows life will go on....
