On April 14 rowers from RFH Crew, an independent crew club comprised exclusively of high school students who attend Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, travelled to the North Jersey Championship Regatta to compete against thirteen other NJ high school teams in the first regatta of the spring racing season for RFH Crew.
The North Jersey Championship Regatta is now in its third year but this was its first race to be held at a new venue, Overpeck County Park in Ridgefield Park, NJ. Nearly two thousand spectators came to cheer on the 430 athletes who competed.
The RFH Crew Men’s High School Varsity 4+ team returned with a gold medal and a winning time of 5:16 in the 1500-meter race. The Men’s High School 4+ varsity team (pictured left to right) consists of coxswain Jason Post, Chris Cerruti, Matt Baumer, Dughan Ahimovic and Jonathan Decelle.
In addition, second place went to the RFH Crew Women’s High School Varsity 4+ team (not pictured), consisting of Tessa Liberi, Hope Knochenhauer, Gabby Minassian, Jackie Moser and coxswain Shannon Swikart.
Head Coach Mike Owdij said “It was a great day of racing and everyone made RFH Crew proud.”
RFH Crew will next take to the waters on Sunday, April 22 at the fifth Manny Flick Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, PA.
