Remains of Kayaker Found in Shrewsbury River
Man had been missing since 2010
Skeletal remains found in the Shrewsbury River have been identified as an area kayaker who had been missing since 2010, his abandoned kayak having turned up on Sedge Island in the river between Rumson and Sea Bright, according to multiple news reports.
The NJ State Police said the remains have been identified, using dental records, as David Civile, 28, formerly of Tinton Falls.
Police say a contractor making dock repairs on Little Silver Point Road in Little Silver on Nov. 28 found the remains.
According to various reports, Civile disappeared during a kayak trip down the Shewsbury River off what is referred to as Howard's Beach, at the end of Little Silver Point Road, Little Silver, on Nov. 17. Authorities had searched for him for four days after his initial disappearance, but turned up nothing.
Civile was the manager of the Trader Joe's in Westfield at the time of his disappearance. He was a native of Cranford, but moved to Tinton Falls in 2008.
