Dickens Ode: R-FH's 'Christmas Carol'
Tower Players celebrate Dickens' 200th anniversary with production of 'A Christmas Carol'
The Tower Players of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School invite you to join them as they celebrate the life of Charles Dickens and the holiday season. You might even get a piece of birthday cake!
In celebration of the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens, The Tower Players will present A Christmas Carol based on the classic Dickens tale, on Friday, Nov. 30, and Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 pm. On Sunday, Dec. 2, the final performance will be a matinee at 1 p.m..
Although Dickens lived and wrote in the Victorian era, his masterpiece transcends his time, language and culture. With their performance, The Tower Players are celebrating Dickens and the start the holidays with his time-honored story of redemption and kindness.
Britain launched its year-long celebration of Dickens life on Feb. 7, 2012 when members of the royal family placed a wreath on the author's grave in the Poets Corner of Westminster Abbey, the resting place of many literary dignitaries.
Institutions and organizations from all over the world are participating in “Dickens 2012” which includes a variety of events taking place throughout the entire year with celebrations to commemorate this very special anniversary.
Although Dickens died in 1870 his novels and characters are more popular than ever. This is the most certainly the case with A Christmas Carol written in 1843.
Ebenezer Scrooge is literature’s most notorious miser whose heart is “locked up tighter than a cash box.” Scrooge must endure the visits by three spirits who remind him who he was and what he might yet become. He is given the chance to open up his heart and learn the true meaning of the season: that it’s never too late to make a new start.
