Spectators at a recent Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (R-FH) basketball game were treated to a special show during halftime.
A troupe of grade-school girls from Monmouth County showed off the moves they had learned at the first dance clinic hosted by the R-FH Dance Team.
Through advertisements posted at the Fair Haven and Rumson grammar schools as well as at local dance studios, the dance team signed up twelve students for the four-hour clinic.
The young girls perfected their moves with the guidance of their teenage instructors on Jan. 27. Then, at a Jan. 31 basketball game against Red Bank Catholic High School, they performed a two and a half-minute routine alongside the R-FH dancers.
"It was great to bring the community together and share our passion with the younger grades," R-FH Dance Team Advisor Jennifer Costa said.
The Dance Team Clinic, designed for girls in kindergarten through eighth grade, was so successful that mini-clinics are planned for the summer and fall. The R-FH dancers hope to train a group of young girls to perform at an upcoming R-FH football game.
The R-FH Dance Team consists of co-captains and R-FH Seniors Jen Maloney and Gabby Minassian as well as Juniors Emily DelNegro, Jillian Hunt, and Arianna Campbell, Sophomores Stephanie Sciametta, Abbey Weis and Jessica Weltz, and Freshman Deanna Hiller.
