POLL: Is it Time to Fight Rumson BOE?
Do you think it's in the best interests of students to fight the BOE or compromise and cool down?
The Rumson Board of Education’s recent decision not renew a popular elementary teacher’s contract for the coming school year has prompted a contingent of parents to come out against the board and Superintendent Maryrose Caulfield-Sloan.
The parents who support the teacher have alleged that Caulfield-Sloan’s actions in this matter and others do not take the interests of the greater good of the school system to heart.
They have said that her behavior toward them has been inappropriate and have launched a campaign, backed by NJ Education Association representative Brian Furry, to push for her removal.
The board has issued a statement saying that personnel matters are not for public purview and there are legitimate reasons not to renew this and any other contracts.
Caulfield-Sloan said nothing on the matter at the last board meeting.
Other parents of students present and past have come out in support of Caulfield-Sloan’s methods and skills.
They have said her strengths in curriculum development and other areas as well other areas are bound to boost the district’s academic rating.
And, at Monday’s Board of Education meeting, those parents called for cooperation for the greater good of the student body rather than segregation.
A group, calling itself, “The Real Housewives of Rumson” has circulated an anonymous email denouncing the superintendent and board.
One parent said that mobilizing forces on any side in the name of “housewives” is counterproductive, as the issue is not whether or not people are housewives bears no weight when evaluating education and what’s best for the student body.
What do you think? Is time right to fight the board and superintendent or is it a better idea to back down and strike a compromise?
Tell us in the poll and/or comments section below.

I have been in this town for many years and have never seen this type of reaction to the decisions and behaviors of a superintendent. Something is not adding up. I would recommend an independent investigation or review be done on the superintendent.

Is it truth to the rumor that there is going to be a lawsuit against the realhouse wives of nj group for putting out libelous and slanderous statements ?

It's not but it is good to see that the superintendent is reading these posts. Just a matter of time before you are exposed for the type of havoc you reek on districts.

The law says, for good reason, that the management of the school district cannot share personnel issues with the public. This is often, but not always, for the benefit of the employee(teacher). The fact the the teacher's union through it's represantative is backing the ouster of the superintendant is troubling, of course. Equally troubling is that the superintendant made comments inappropriate to her position of authority.
These are complex issues and they do not have simplistic solutions. I think reason should prevail and we should let the story play out.

The same thing happened in our town a few years ago with some teachers and parents complained at board meetings to no avail....when C-S was in Wayne.....
