The Rumson Board of Education’s recent decision not renew a popular elementary teacher’s contract for the coming school year has prompted a contingent of parents to come out against the board and Superintendent Maryrose Caulfield-Sloan.

The parents who support the teacher have alleged that Caulfield-Sloan’s actions in this matter and others do not take the interests of the greater good of the school system to heart.

They have said that her behavior toward them has been inappropriate and have launched a campaign, backed by NJ Education Association representative Brian Furry, to push for her removal.

The board has issued a statement saying that personnel matters are not for public purview and there are legitimate reasons not to renew this and any other contracts.

Caulfield-Sloan said nothing on the matter at the last board meeting.

Other parents of students present and past have come out in support of Caulfield-Sloan’s methods and skills.

They have said her strengths in curriculum development and other areas as well other areas are bound to boost the district’s academic rating.

And, at Monday’s Board of Education meeting, those parents called for cooperation for the greater good of the student body rather than segregation.

A group, calling itself, “The Real Housewives of Rumson” has circulated an anonymous email denouncing the superintendent and board.

One parent said that mobilizing forces on any side in the name of  “housewives” is counterproductive, as the issue is not whether or not people are housewives bears no weight when evaluating education and what’s best for the student body.
