Meet FH Police at National Night Out

The borough will host its 10th annual event to connect police with the community

For the 10th year, the on Aug. 7 will participate in the program by hosting an event for residents to gather and get to know and understand borough police.

Starting at 5 p.m. at the Youth Center fields, behind police headquarters, there will be a host of police-oriented demonstrations, games, prizes, food and drink.

MONOC will have its Air Medic Unit (helicopter) on location from 5 to 6 p.m., landing at the field behind police headquarters.

There will also be K-9 demonstrations by Monmouth County Sheriff’s officers Kurt Kroeper and Jay Arentino and their K-9 partners Evan and Ari. And the Fair Haven Fire Department and First Aid Squad will be on hand to give various demonstrations.

Among the entertainment planned for this year are: a dunk tank, sponsored by the Fair Haven PTA; a bounce house, sponsored by LOK DOC; an inflatable speed pitch with radar, sponsored by the Fair Haven Fire Department; an inflatable gaming tent housing four separate games, sponsored by the Fair Haven First Aid; and a karate demonstration by Fair Haven Fitness.

As the national sponsor of National Night Out, Target this year will give away two girls’ and two boys' bikes.

McGruff the Crime Dog will make a guest appearance, complimentary food and beverages will be served and there will be drawings for special prizes.

In its 29th year nationwide, National Night Out was borne in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch to foster support for and participation in local anti-crime programs and strengthen the relationships between communities and police.
