Obituary: Rumson's Alfred J. Hassinger, 85, of Hassinger Real Estate Agency

Hassinger died on Wednesday

 

Alfred J. Hassinger, 85, of Rumson, owner/operator of Hassinger Real Estate Agency and descendant of a Monmouth Beach Club founder, died on Wednesday, March 6.

Alfred attended the Rumson and Red Bank schools, where he wrote and participated in school theater productions, and graduated from Long Branch High School after having to relocate to Monmouth Beach to live with grandparents after his mother's death, according to legacy.com.

After high school, Hassinger attended Seton Hall University and went on to work for Helmsley Spear, New York, and was real estate manager of Newark's 744 Broad St. He retired in 2002.

Hassinger was involved in many civic and community organizations, including: the Rumson Board of Education, Rumson Boy Scouts as a scout master, the Classic Car Club of America, the SSYC.

He also belonged to the Monmouth Beach Club, where his grandfather was a founder. His hobbies included: sailing, classic cars, music and entertaining, according to legacy.com.

He was a communicant of the Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven.

Hassinger was predeceased by: parents, Alfred J. and Gladys; grandparents, Louis and Elizabeth; and a sister Mary Jane Callahan.

He is survived by: his wife Kathleen; son Alfred J.; daughters Heather Hassinger, Holly Hassinger of Hoboken and VT and Kathleen Halbert of Wynnewood, PA.

He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Lane, Camille and Eve Halbert and
Lauren, Emily and Alfred John Hassinger IV.

There will be a Mass of only at Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven, on Monday, March 11 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Rumson First Aid Squad or the Monmouth County SPCA, according to the legacy obituary.
