Gov. Christie Comes to Sea Bright

The governor is bringing a HUD rep with him

Since Hurricane Sandy struck, Gov. Chris Christie has been to a devastated Sea Bright several times and will return again today to speak on recovery and rebuilding.

Christie will appear at the Sea Bright Firehouse, Ocean Avenue, at 2 p.m. He will bring with him, for the first time, U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan to focus on the rebuild topic.

Of the more than 50 businesses in the borough, only five are again up and running: Woody's Ocean Grille, Dunkin' Donuts, Harry's Lobster House, Ama Ristorante and Bain's Hardware.

A few business owners have plans to relocate, two of them to Fair Haven. Roughly one third of the residents are living back in their homes or apartments and a curfew after dark and into the morning hours remains in effect for side streets.

There has been talk of a redevelopment plan for the borough's business district. A beach replenishment project, which was approved before Sandy, is currently underway as well.

Will the beaches have better beach access for the public that pays for Sea Brights sand replenishment?
