Bruce Springsteen to Stump for Obama in Ohio, Iowa
New Jersey rocker will take the stage for the Democratic campaign to help with close races in those states.
Bruce Springsteen will join the campaign trail Thursday for President Barack Obama in Northeast Ohio and Iowa.
The Boss will team up with former President Bill Clinton in Parma, Ohio, then head on to Ames, Iowa, later Thursday for another campaign concert and rally, according to Springsteen's website.
Although, Springsteen previously said he would stay out of the 2012 election, the presidential race in these states is tightening, reported The New York Times.
“His appearance will help with our get-out-the vote effort in these critical swing states, and we are thrilled with his ongoing support,” the Obama-Biden campaign manager, Jim Messina, said in a widely quoted statement.
According to a CNN Poll of Polls, Obama only has a 3 percent lead, at 50 percent, in Ohio among likely voters over Republican candidate Mitt Romney, at 47 percent.
Springsteen has openly supported the Democratic party in the past, performing for Obama's 2008 campaign and at his inauguration, as well as playing rallies for Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts in 2004, reported Spin Magazine.
However, in an interview with The New Yorker, he said he was wary about joining a campaign again. “I did it twice because things were so dire,” Springsteen was quoted saying.
During the 2004 election, Springsteen drew an estimated 80,000 people to a campaign rally in Madison, Wi., according to the San Francisco Chronicle, helping Kerry win the state.

You might consider that it is possible to become a success in life after starting out poor without forgetting where you came from. That may be an important factor as any in Springsteen's long-term popularity.

How does making the rich pay more motivate anyone that is receiving financial assistance get motivated to get off financial assistance? More the rich pay the more I get attitude? Just curious

Al I hear is Bruce is a blue collar guy...He signed a 5 million dollar contract at 25 years of age...His image is all about marketing. .And it worked. What makes him a Blue Collar guy? Way he dresses? Did he ever work a 9-5 job?

Bruce and Jon say they don't pay enough. Neither one has paid the extra. Do their accountants use all of the tax laws to reduce the tax burden of their clients? I hope they don't use the same things that Rommney uses that would be wrong.

Romney paid only 14 % taxes because he also gave 30 % to charities of his choosing...He basically gave 44% of his income to taxes and charities...I am glad that he didn't give the whole 44% to the government...His money went to a better cause ..Imagine how the government would of used his money...

Every time I see a story about these guys stumping for Obama I write another check to Romney. The more positive comments, the bigger the check.

Bruce is a washed up has been who should keep his political views to himself. The only thing he is qualified to do other than play his music is wait tables. Which is more than I can say for B-O.

Bruce Springsteen nicely combines catchy tunes with meaningful lyrics. His work masterfully connects with the downtrodden; he eulogizes their suffering and everyday internal struggles in a very talented and interesting way. Also, his last album was quite good for those of you who think he is washed up. What baffles me about Springsteen (especially in light of his apparently well thought out lyrics) is his naivety; the fact that he is actually taken in by a politician -- any politician. Obama and Romney are one in the same. Both are abysmally disingenuous and have displayed tremendous hypocrisy through out their political careers. Romney's flip-flopping is well documented and extensive. Obama backtracked on almost every campaign promise he made (bailing out the wealthy corporations/banks; closing Guantanamo; ending the wars, etc, etc.) I see it as a moral imperative to refrain from voting for either of these rather indistinguished and for that matter indistinguishable men.
