A New Face and a New President on the RFH Board of Education
A new member and a new president were sworn in at the board meeting on May 3.
The newly elected board members were sworn into office at the Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) Board of Education meeting on May 3.
"We've got you now," said Superintendent Pete Righi to the newbie.
For the 2011-12 RFH Board of Education election, there were 3 people running for three open seats, two of which were incumbents. The incumbents who were re-elected are Jane Pattwell of Rumson and Lisa Waters of Rumson. One newcomer was voted onto the board: Charles (Chuck) Volker of Fair Haven.
Volkner graduated from RFH in 1983. He said his experience at the school is what helped him make the decision to run for the board. "I love the school. I had a wonderful experience going here and now I have four children coming through," he said. "The investment of my time is well worth it."
The new guy on the BOE also credited a good group of people on the board, teachers who "really care" and a supportive community as other key reasons he decided to run.
As for prior experience, Volkner said that he is familiar with the "Parliment structure" after spending many years on the Fair Haven Baseball Committee. "It is going to take some time to get used to the meetings," he said and added he is confident he will catch on quickly. "We already voted on some stuff tonight!"
In addition to swearing in the newly elected members, the board also voted on the Board of Education President and Vice President for the new school year. Lisa Waters will serve as President of the board and Jane Pattwell as Vice President.
"I am very excited to serve as President," said Waters. "We have an amazing staff, a great administration and it is a pleasure to work with this school district."
Waters has 2 children who have already gone through the RFH district and 2 more on their way. She said there was no doubt in her mind that she wanted to volunteer to lead the board this year. "We really live in a great community and anyone who has the opportunity to give back should do what they can. It's an honor," she said.
Waters led her first official meeting as President after being voted in during the meeting.
The next RFH Board of Education Meeting will be on June 14, 2011 at 7:00p.m. in the high school library.
